Responsibilities:
-Assists operation of slitting machine to slit continuous lengths of steel into coils of specified width by performing the following duties.
-Takes direction from slitter operator or supervisor to maintain highest level of machine productivity.
-Helps perform setup according to established control plans and procedures. Sets spacers, shims, and rotary blades on machine shaft, according to widths specified on the chart.
-Mounts coil of steel on uncoiler machine supports and threads material over tension bar, between feed rollers, and through rotary blades.
-Helps perform required inspections and notes results on VCC.
-Laps ends of slit material onto recoiler.
-Observes flow of material through machine to detect irregular cutting, winding, or other special characteristics called out in the chart and communicates to the slitter operator.
-Moves levers to stop, start, and regulates speed of machine to align material with rotary blades.
-Disengages winding shaft and removes narrow rolls of material.
-Assists operator of the machine in any assigned tasks.
-Helps organized tools/tooling and helps with preventative maintenance
Qualifications:
-Fully aware of customer requirements and defect awareness to be able to communicate with slitter operator.
-Ability to read and interpret work instructions, work order and other various documents.
-Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to add and subtract and read a tape measure.
-While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
