Field Foreman

Location: Greater Lansing area
Department: Construction

Reports To: Field Operations Manager
Shift: Days
Pay: $30-$36/hour depending on experience 

Position Purpose and Objective:
The role of the Field Foreman is to oversee the jobsite, coordinate manpower, process all required paperwork (i.e. meaningful daily reports, timesheets, RFI’s, As-built drawings), verify coordinated drawings, and building the project in accordance with the plans and specifications. Manage the construction site.

Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to come to work promptly and regularly.

  • Must be able to work under stress of deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Enforce company Safety Plan
  • Read and understand all plans and specifications for the project ( tab your spec. book as you go through it for a quick reference at a later date)
  • Make a rough materials list from drawings
  • Report all material shortages to the Purchasing Agent
  • Ensure all material and equipment is properly checked in
  • Report all equipment discrepancies to Project Manager and Operations Manager
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings and toolbox talks
  • Attend all Field Foreman meetings
  • Attend job kick-off meetings
  • Maintain daily site logs
  • Coordinate manpower with Project Scheduler
  • Coordinate work with other trades
  • Verify all work and equipment will fit (as building is going up, because not all items will fit through doorways)
  • Schedule sub-contractors to the job site
  • Layout the job with lead man
  • Continuously verify all installations
  • Review and read all shop drawings, have an understanding of how the product is to be installed, so we do not avoid factory warranties. Review operation and maintenance manuals for more information on these products.
  • Write RFI’s and forward to (Project Managers or Project Administrators
  • Report all injuries to Safety Manager and HR immediately
  • Call for inspections and walk the job with the inspector
  • Ensure an adherence to all company policies
  • Maintain and sign accurate daily time sheets and turn into HR
  • Coordinate potential change orders with the Project Manager
  • Minimize and complete punch list (always sign and date completed list-return to Project Manager)
  • Keep lead man involved in all aspects of the project
  • Maintain As-built drawings
  • Coordinate start-ups with Project Manager or Project Administrator
  • Promote positive feedback when team members are doing well
  • Provide feedback to Operations Manager on team members performance
  • Train Lead men to become Foreman
  • Communicate project issues with the team as they arise
  • Keep Morale Up- Express a Positive Attitude
  • Keep costs and wages confidential
  • Assist Operations Manager with performance reviews of crew
  • Take Project photos on all LEED projects
  • All other duties as assigned by management

Requirements: 

  • High School education or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must have skilled trade education
  • 3 to 5 years Project Lead experience
  • OSHA-10 certified
  • Requires the capability to lift 75 lbs. multiple times throughout the day
  • Requires bending, reaching, and stooping repetitively throughout the day
  • Requires standing for long periods of time
  • Requires the ability to physically climb all types of ladders

Accountability:
The Foreman is accountable for maintaining an efficient and safe job site; inform Operations Manager of performance standard issues, company and safety policy infractions with job site personnel.

Working Conditions:
Can be high stressed and fast paced. This job requires physical agility and strength. Repetitive bending, twisting, turning, overhead work, and reaching are daily requirements. Personnel must be able to handle conflicts and interruptions in a professional and courteous manner.

Authority:
Foreman has the authority to dismiss employees from the job site based on poor attendance, habitual tardiness, substandard performance or company and safety policies that the employee refuses to adhere to. The foreman must immediately contact the Human Resource Department and the Operation Manager that an employee has been dismissed from the site and is being sent to the HR office for disciplinary action.
